Carnival in Rio

One of the most exciting times to visit Brazil is during Carnival, an annual 4 day event that changes dates every year. The celebrations start Friday, prior to Ash Wednesday up until the following Tuesday .
It's such a massive event that performers start rehearsing months before it even officially begins. There are also lots of exciting pre-activities like dance rehearsals and street parades that happen way before the first day of Carnival. If you're a musician and really want to participate in Pre-Carnival activities, try joining up with a banda and play music in one of the street processions.
People who belong to the same neighbourhood or suburb create Samba schools and get together for regular Samba nights and rehearsals (ensaios) at their Samba court (quadra). Usually, these Samba schools create up to 8 floats in the festival. All their costumes and floats are based on a theme and are hand-made.
Carnival is a once in a lifetime experience and watching it is something you will never forget. The excitement for the event is felt throughout the year everyone prepares. Be sure to be in in the heart of Brazil to be a part of the most famous party in the world: Carnival in Rio.
