Camping (at Uncle Tom's)

When I was a kid my Dad used to take us camping in Easter at a place called Uncle Tom's Cabins on Wallaga Lake about 10 mins out of Bermagui. I have really great memories of this place so in adulthood I decided to go back and see if it really was as great as I remember and you know what? Its better!
There is one negative to this place, and that is that is not longer called Uncle Tom's Cabins (not by the owners anyway, it will always be called that to me), it's now known as Regatta Point Holiday Park (www.regattapointpark.com.au). It's about 4 1/2 hours drive south of Sydney but is definitely worth it for a longer trip (3 days+). Its basically a caravan park and campsite with some cabins right on a rather large lake, and is only 2 mins drive to the local beach, Camel Rock Beach, and 20-30 mins drive from the beautiful countryside towns of Tilba Tilba and Central Tilba.
The great part about this place is if you dont go when its busy you basically have these great big campsites all to yourself, and the rates are far from expensive. The facilities are in pretty good order and the staff are really friendly.
Things to do:
- Fishing in the lake, either off a jetty or hire a boat, or in Bermagui there is quite good fishing
- Hire a canoe or kayak
- Head down to the beach
- Visit the Tilba towns including the Cheese factory and a number of good wineries
- Fish and chips in Bermagui
- Cooking delicious meals over a real campfire
- Just relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings
